This is a kosher grocery store that caters to Great Neck’s Persian population. While it offers a compelling array of dried and fresh produce, nuts, cheeses, and prepared foods, there is an unusual oven in the back lined with stones to make an flatbread known as sangak. It comes comes out of the oven like a giant ribbon, pocked by the hot stones, and sprinkled with black sesame seeds. The baker folds it between layers of paper and hands it to customers, the bread still steaming. It is remarkable and absolutely worth a stop. The shop will be closed on Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown.

Owner Umberto Corteo opened his first pizzeria in 1965 and originally created the thin, square-shaped grandma pie for staff before others convinced him to start serving it to the public, too. Since then, the pie has spread to fans across the country.
