Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is a festival to celebrate the turn of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. This year, the Year of the Monkey, the celebration falls on Monday, February 8. Restaurants all over the city are offering special additions to their menus such as noodles and dumplings said to promote longevity and prosperity respectively. Chinese New Year NYC: Where to Celebrate the Year of the Monkey

Fung Tu
In addition the the regular menu, Fung Tu chefs Jonathan Wu and Matt John Wells will serve celebratory specials such as Scallops Wontons in Mushroom-Celery Broth ($15) and Chestnut Mooncakes with Cashew Ice Cream ($7). The seafood-filled wontons symbolize wealth in the New Year, while mooncakes symbolize family togetherness. Fung Tu will also offer special drinks such as the Money Tree with Fino and Amontillado Sherry, Cynar, and bitters. The menu additions are available 2/8-2/13.

The Lucky Bee
Brand new Lower East Side restaurant The Lucky Bee is celebrating its first Lunar New Year with additions like Crab & Cream Cheese Fried Wontons with Sweet Chili ($13); Jelly Fish Salad, Cilantro, Sesame, Chili Oil ($12); Salt & Pepper Silken Tofu with Stir Fried Baby Bok Choy ($11); and Congee Pork Tenderloin with Thousand Year Egg, Ginger ($13). The restaurant will be closed on Monday 2/8 but the menu is available from 2/5 to 2/7.

Yunnan BBQ
At Yunnan BBQ, guests can celebrate the New Year with a special five-course tasting menu. The $48 per person menu, served in addition to the regular menu, will serve Yu Sheung Salad, northern tiger pork and chive dumplings, stir-fried mushrooms, and eight treasure fried rice. Yunnan BBQ is closed Mondays but the menu will be available 2/10 to 2/12. Full details here.

Wildair
On Monday, Contra's casual little sister Wildair will host chef Kris Yenbamroong of Night + Market and Night + Market Song in Los Angeles. Dinner will be served a la carte and feature dishes from Wildair's menu as well as special Thai dishes from Yenbamroong. Wildair is walk-in only.

Pig and Khao
Chef Leah Cohen will be teaming up with Joshua Li Walker of Xiao Bao Biscuit in Charleston for a special Lunar New Year themed menu. The $75 per person menu will serve chili prawns with mantou buns; chao shou, Sichuan-style pork dumplings; mapo spaghetti with pork skin noodles, bolognese; Bo Bo Ji, fried chicken with hua jiao chili butter; sticky rice and Chinese sausage; and blood orange "creamsicle" almond cookie crunch. Tuome
Chef and owner Thomas Chen will be celebrating the Lunar New Year at Tuome with three menu additions. Options include snow crab with noodles, and dashi parmesan ($19); langoustine spring rolls ($21); and whole dorade for two with fermented black bean. The three dishes, available only from 2/4 until 2/9, represent longevity, wealth, and abundance respectively.

Annisa
Chef Anita Lo will celebrate the year of the monkey with a six-course good luck tasting menu. The $140 per person menu is available on 2/7 and 2/8 and will feature Monkey Bread with Five Flower Pork; Stir Fried Chicken with Orange, and Turnip Cake; and Caramelized Banana with Peanut and Coconut Ice Cream. RedFarm
Both locations of Ed Schoenfeld and chef Joe Ng's restaurant will be celebrating the Lunar New Year. Specials include torched salmon cocktail, gold coin scallion pancakes, confit duck leg with dry-cooked kale, and BBQ squab for prosperity. Red Farm is also serving a "Happy Buddha's Delight" with beancurd skin, pickled lotus root, and noodles. All dishes are available starting 2/6.

Kings County Imperial
On Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., co-chefs and partners Josh Grinker and Tracy Jane Young are offering a special New Year menu at their Williamsburg restaurant. Options include lobster yee mein with Maine lobster; savory eight jewel rice with shrimp and dried bean curd; and tangerines and pomegranates for dessert to symbolize wealth and abundant happiness. The menu is $55 per person and all dishes are served family-style. The regular menu will also be available.

Black Tree BK
At Black Tree BK, where the menu and featured animal changes weekly, the team will be serving a Chinese menu in honor of the New Year. From 2/8 until 2/13, options on the menu will include duck fried rice ($17), miso pork belly ($16), crab meat soup ($12), and kung pao chicken ($17).
