Doug Quint, Big Gay Ice Cream: "One of my favorite NYC burgers comes from Big Nick's. I fell in love with that place when I was a student at Juilliard, and my cholesterol hasn't been the same since. Rumor has it that Big Nick's is running on their last lease, so maybe now's the time to go check out one of my favorite ways to kill a hangover." [Photo]

Marc Murphy, LandMarc and Ditch Plains: "One of my absolute favorite burgers in New York is the Akaushi cheeseburger with herbed mayo and pickled jalapeños from ABC Kitchen. The beef is so tender and flavorful, and paired with the acidity of the pickled jalapeños and the exact proportion of 'beef to bun,' it is the perfectly balanced burger." [Photo]

George Mendes, Aldea: "Josh Capon's burger at B & B has the best bun and overall bite. I don't know what he does, but that sauce he makes is ridiculous." George also offers a few other recommendations: "Shake Shack is just straight-up simple and fresh and I enjoy eating outside in the park. The funky, dry-aged flavor of Minetta Tavern's grass-fed beef is right up my alley." [Photo]

5. Peter Luger Steak House

Daniel Holzman, The Meatball Shop: "I love a rare burger. There aren't too many places where you can get a great rare burger, but Peter Luger is one of them. Although known for their steaks, this place also cranks out an awesome burger. The burger is only served during lunch but it is worth the mid-day trek." [Photo]

6. J. G. Melon

Bobby Flay, Mesa Grill and Bar Americain: “My favorite burger in the city is from J.G. Melon on 74th and 3rd Avenue. Nothing fancy—just a simple burger with American cheese cooked on the griddle. I grew up eating this burger, and it actually inspired me to cook my burgers on the griddle. The patty gets a great crust on it that way.”

Manuel Trevino, Marble Lane: "When I’m not at Marble Lane, I love the burger at J.G. Melon on the Upper East Side. It’s famous in New York for the signature juicy hamburger, which is a go-to for me when I want to get out of the kitchen.” [Photo]

7. The Spotted Pig

Gabe Thompson, L'Artusi, Dell'Anima, L'Apicio: "The burger at the Spotted Pig is awesome! Only three great ingredients: bun, meat and Roquefort. The shoestring fries with garlic and rosemary are addictive. I always ask for mustard (mayo is not an option there). Always perfectly seasoned and cooked!"

Michael Berardino, Angolo Soho: "The Spotted Pig is my go-to. Because of my work schedule and how late the restaurant is open, it's very convenient. I would get the chargrilled burger with Roquefort cheese after work when I was nearby working at dell'anima, and now it's still my favorite burger to grab after work at Angolo SoHo."

Missy Robbins, A Voce: “The best burger ever is hands-down the chargrilled burger from The Spotted Pig. Served with blue cheese and a side of perfect shoestring fries with garlic and rosemary…and honestly, it’s even better with a Bloody Mary.” [Photo]

Richard Kuo of Pearl and Ash: "Back Forty in the East Village and Minetta Tavern are pretty good contenders. If I'm looking for something a little more low key, there is a place on St. Marks called 'Mark' where they serve sliders — with several condiments — that are cooked a la minute. They also serve some very cheap beers." [Photo]

10. Minetta Tavern

Dale Talde, Talde, Thistle Hill Tavern, and Pork Slope: “It’s gotta be Minetta Tavern’s Black Label Burger. Seriously, believe the hype. It’s like eating a steak between two buns. For a burger I’d eat everyday though, it’d hands down be Shake Shack’s Double Shackburger. So damn good.”

Ben Daitz, Num Pang: "I know it's typical but the Minetta Burger is my absolute favorite — the quality of meat is insane and it is served at a perfect medium rare with caramelized onions. The ratio of beef to onion to bun is just right and so delicious."

Paulie Giannone, Paulie Gee: "Since first trying the Minetta Tavern Black Label Burger last summer, I do not eat nor desire any other hamburger. It stopped me dead in my tracks." [Photo]

11. Burger Joint

Wolfgang Ban, Seasonal and Edi & The Wolf: "The Burger Joint at the Parker Meridian makes one of the best burgers in the city. They don't have a ton of variety so I just get the classic cheeseburger every time I go. It's right around the corner from Seasonal, so it's very convenient for me to just stop by. Maybe a bit too convenient!" [Photo]

Luis Bollo, Salinas: “DB Bistro Moderne’s decadent burger with foie gras and truffles. I love it, but you have to be willing to part with $30+ for a burger. I've also like the burger at Jeffrey's Grocery with fresh avocado and applewood smoked bacon. Among the chains, Better Burger.” [Photo]

It's flavorful and juicy and comes with perfect fries, or tangy beautiful greens if I'm feeling particularly ladylike that day. Thanks diner for being the best and see you soon!" [Photo]

Geoffrey Zakarian, The Lambs Club, The National, The Water Club: "The burger at P.J. Clarke's — always order it on white toast. Very traditional but cooked on a plancha which makes it cook in its own juices. It is nicely charred - real special. And, Josh Capon's Burger & Barrel — it is simply the best and perfectly done. Real beef flavor, minimal stuff on top, and not over worked…delicious." [Photo]
