In the shadow of Hudson Yards, another real estate development has risen. Manhattan West, a Brookfield Properties-backed development along Ninth Avenue, between West 31st and 33rd streets, officially opens its doors today with the launch of Daily Provisions, a popular all-day cafe from Union Square Hospitality Group. Anticipated restaurants like USHG’s multi-level Italian space Ci Siamo and Mediterranean spot Zou Zou’s from Quality Branded will open over the next month; and food hall Citizens New York — with Los Angeles sushi import Katsuya and Spanish restaurant Casa Dani from acclaimed chef Dani Garcia — is slated to open in early October. Outposts of Black Fox Coffee and Whole Foods are already open.

Manhattan West is the latest in a series of new real estate developments and food halls to open to the public amid the ongoing pandemic. The Hugh opened in Midtown East earlier this month with outposts of Israeli favorite Miznon and Mah-Ze-Dahr bakery. Meanwhile, Jacx & Co in Long Island City opened last fall boasting shops like Chef JJ Johnson’s FieldTrip and Chinese fast-casual restaurant Lotus + Cleaver from the team behind Nolita hotspot Kimika.

A GoFundMe launches for displaced Bronx street vendor

Following a controversial incident in the Bronx last Thursday, in which city officials trashed a produce stand run by unlicensed street vendor Diana Hernandez Cruz, a GoFundMe has been launched to raise $11,000 to support Cruz and her children.

Daily Provisions is taking over the city — and maybe the country

Not only is Danny Meyer-backed all-day cafe Daily Provisions opening at Manhattan West this week, but it also launched a West Village location in August to add to its growing stable of shops scattered across Manhattan. Now, industry analysts speculate to the New York Post that Daily Provisions may be poised to grow nationally, too — following in the footsteps of Meyer’s first fast-casual hit Shake Shack. Meyer didn’t comment to the Post about future plans for Daily Provisions other than to expect more locations to open up around NYC.
