The missing chef at Cipriani Dolci in Grand Central has been found dead, the New York Police Department confirms to Eater.
Andrea Zamperoni, 33, was last seen at his home in Elmhurst on Monday at noon. His body was found at Queens hostel Kamway Lodge. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Coworkers reported Zamperoni missing on Monday when he didn’t show up for his shift that afternoon, CBS2 reports. Sous chef Manuel Ignacio told CBS2 that “everyone in the company is freaking out right now,” and he told NBC4 that Zamperoni’s roommate last saw him getting into a car.
Zamperoni had been with Cipriani for more than a decade in various restaurants and positions around the world, most recently as the head chef of Cipriani Dolci in Grand Central. Cipriani manager Fernando Dallorso told CBS2 that Zamperoni is “not a guy that goes out or parties.” In a statement, Cipriani called Zamperoni “kind and “very hard-working.”
Update: August 22, 2019, 3:47 p.m.: This article was updated to reflect that the missing body found was Zamperoni.
