The ‘Museum’ of Ice Cream returns to NYC, and it’s more ridiculous than ever

Tourist-magnet food “museum” the Museum of Ice Cream makes its permanent return to New York City this fall, when it’ll take over a 25,000-square-foot, three-story building at 558 Broadway. And the “museum” is going all out with its biggest infamous sprinkle pool to date. The incredibly popular yet controversial social media gimmick first appeared in the city in 2016, born out of co-founder Maryellis Bunn’s childhood fantasy of swimming through a pool of sprinkles.

The stunty fake museum spawned the food “museum” sensation, with several others food “museums” opening, like ones dedicated to pizza here in New York and avocados in California. The original ice cream brand also has a permanent location in San Francisco.

In Soho, for $38 people can experience its “epic” three-story slide and walk through a hall of “giant scoops,” as well as try some ice cream. A cafe that’s open to the public is also part of the plan. When it first appeared in 2016, tickets quickly sold out and were being sold on Craigslist for $100. Apparently the company is sure the museum’s new permanent location will be just as popular, as there’s already an early access waitlist that confidently boasts “tickets will sell out!” Those tickets go on sale October 9.
