A star team of chefs and sommeliers are banding together to open a natural wine bar in Prospect Heights.

LaLou will open in about two weeks at 581 Vanderbilt Ave., between Pacific and Dean streets, with wine choices from Joe Campanale, who owns nearby Italian restaurant Fausto, and food from Ashley Rath, the former chef de cuisine at acclaimed chophouse the Grill.

Campanale made his name at L’Artusi and the late Dell’anima, both of which became Italian wine destinations. His newer restaurant Fausto has done the same, known for its deep cut of Italian wines, vintage varietals, and specialty spirits. Rath, meanwhile, is a rising star in the food world. She was the opening chef de cuisine at the Grill, a leader of the team that earned it four stars from Eater critic Ryan Sutton and three stars from Pete Wells at the Times.

Details are slim so far on what to expect at LaLou, but the space was formerly Tygershark, with exposed brick walls and an open kitchen. Other partners include former Anfora wine buyer Dave Foss and creative director Ilyssa Satter.

LaLou opens in one of Brooklyn’s top dining neighborhoods, near places like Olmsted, Alta Calidad, and MeMe’s Diner. The surrounding area is also particularly abundant in natural wine — wines made with no additives and often farmed organically — with places like June and Faun nearby.

LaLou opens later this month; stay tuned for more.
