Plus, Israeli celebrity chef Eyal Shani is also planting a restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen

Wildly popular counter-service pita spot Miznon will open an outpost on the Upper West Side this year, but it’ll be in a different location than originally expected.

The popular Israeli chain will be moving into 161 West 72nd St., between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, a spokesperson says. Last year, the restaurant was trying to nab a liquor license for a different location at 320 Columbus Ave., a few blocks north.

Miznon — one of the top pita sandwich spots in Tel Aviv — expanded to the U.S. with a store in Chelsea Market in 2018. The restaurant from Israeli celebrity chef Eyal Shani drew instant lines shortly after its New York debut. Eater critic Robert Sietsema especially enjoyed the chef’s take on a cheeseburger, in which a pita is stuffed with a smashed burger patty, cheese, and dill pickles, a “wonderful” variation of the original.

Meanwhile, Shani is also plotting a location of his flagship restaurant HaSalon at 10th Avenue and 50th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. In Tel Aviv, the restaurant is only open two nights out of the week with a constantly changing menu centered on Israeli cuisine. The New York branch, slated to open in March, will operate four nights a week.

Stay tuned.
