Tickets for December’s Eater Book Club, hosted by Sonia Chopra in the Eater Test Kitchen, are now live. On Tuesday, December 10, join Chopra to discuss Elizabeth Acevedo’s young-adult novel With the Fire on High over food from the Freakin Rican and drinks. Tickets are $15 each.

Fun and filled with food, the novel follows Emoni Santiago, who dreams of being a chef. But as a high school senior with a three-year-old daughter, she knows she has to work twice — or ten times — as hard to get what she wants. In this stunning follow-up to slam poet and author Elizabeth Acevedo’s National Book Award-winning debut novel, The Poet X, Emoni — stubborn, witty, and full of talent — chronicles the everyday struggles and wins that come with senior year: college prep, living with grandma, and wanting so badly to achieve your dreams. Peppered through her narrative are tons of cooking and eating scenes, plus Emoni’s own recipes, which are often inspired by the protagonist’s Afro-Puerto Rican heritage.

Join us to discuss With the Fire on High in the Eater Test Kitchen on December 10 at 6:30 p.m., and buy the book here.
