Mission Chinese expands to Brooklyn
A new outpost for Danny Bowien’s Mission Chinese will slide into the space next to East Williamsburg music venue Elsewhere by the end of the month, expanding the eccentric Sichuan restaurant brand to Brooklyn. This location will have a takeout window to accommodate show-goers, and the menu will include lunch combinations during the day, as well as a new bread program that will include sourdough buckwheat injera.
By Chloe’s massive Seaport District location opens soon
Later this month, vegan fast-casual chain By Chloe will unveil its 2,500-square-foot Seaport District location at 181 Front St., which will also have a new outpost of the brand’s sweets shop Sweets By Chloe next door. The brand is also revamping its coffee program in a collaboration with Devoción, offering vegan specialty espresso drinks like an iced sparkling mint, made with espresso, mint agave syrup, sparkling water, and lime.
Napa restaurant to pop-up in Soho
One of the Bay Area’s most respected chefs will soon cook in NYC, bringing his acclaimed Napa restaurant the Charter Oak to Soho later this month. On September 20 and 21, Cadillac House New York will become a pop-up location of the more casual, seasonally focused Californian restaurant with a hearth, with dinner prepared by chef Christopher Kostow, who also owns Napa’s three-Michelin-starred the Restaurant at Meadowood. Only 100 tickets are available for each night, and they can be purchased here for $150. The dinner will start with cocktails on the veranda, followed by family-style dishes from Charter Oak’s seasonal menu, paired with California wines.
A closure in East Village
It appears East Village might be down a slice shop. Gotham Pizza’s location at 88 Third Ave. has not been open recently, and the space has been cleared out. It opened in August 2016, replacing froyo shop Funkiberry.
