The team behind well-regarded Greenwich Village cocktail den the Up & Up is now slinging its superior but unfussy versions of classics at Stay Gold, a sprawling space with a garden in Kips Bay. Located at 360 3rd Ave., between 26th and 27th streets, Stay Gold serves drinks like a bourbon-based slushie and 16 cocktails, along with wine, beer, bar snacks, and sandwiches.

Co-owners Matt Piacentini and Chaim Dauermann have a lot more space to shake up cocktails here than at the Up & Up, which doesn’t have standing room and only accepts parties of six or fewer. Stay Gold, on the other hand, has standing room and can accommodate large groups: The bar comprises three connected sections, including a front room with an antique bar and 20 barstools, a back room with banquettes and lounge-style seating, and a backyard with its own bar. The garden also has 40 seats plus standing room, and in total, the whole place fits 150 people.

All cocktails are $14 and are overseen by head bartender Kacie Lambert. Some of the Up & Up’s most popular drinks, like the Insanely Good Gin & Tonic are on the menu, but the bar’s list of 16 straightforward cocktails include originals like the Angel Falls, made with gin, sherry, vermouth blanc, and orange bitters.

Stay Gold also adds frozens to the mix, giving it a slight summer edge over the Up & Up. The inside and garden bars both have frozen machines, currently churning out the Stay Cold, made with bourbon, ginger, lemon, and IPA. There are also six different beers and a by-the-glass list of white, rosé, red, and sparkling wines.

Snacks include Triscuits topped with crème fraiche, boiled egg, and caviar, togarashi-dusted popcorn, and foie gras with toast and jam. There are also three sandwiches that keep it simple, including a burger with Thousand Island dressing, as well as a B.L.T. and a grilled cheese.

Floral patterned wallpaper and lamps give the space a vintage look, and on a similar wavelength, Stay Gold uses images and designs from early 20th century travel iconography for its menus and branding.

Stay Gold is open daily from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.
