East Harlem’s acclaimed Taco Mix is going big on an NYC expansion plan, bringing its star al pastor tacos to a grand total of four locations.
The hit taco joint recently opened a second location in East Harlem at 1621 Lexington Ave. at East 102nd Street, offering a similar menu of tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and tortas as the original location nearby at 234 East 116th St. And now Jackson Heights Post reports that Taco Mix is heading to Jackson Heights as well as the Lower East Side.
While the burgeoning chain is best known for its al pastor tacos — Eater critic Robert Sietsema calls it “the best al pastor taco in town” — Taco Mix also offers tinga, pollo asado, chorizo, lenguas, and other taco meats.
Tacos are hotter than ever in NYC. Los Tacos No. 1 is also in the process of growing its taco presence in NYC, recently announcing a third location come to Tribeca later this year. And Danny Meyer hopped into the taco game by opening Tacocina, though Eater critic Ryan Sutton has some reservations about it so far.
The original Taco Mix location opened in 1991, and there’s a Brooklyn location in Sunset Park’s Industry City that opened in 2015. The new Jackson Heights shop will open in the coming weeks at 90-04 37th Ave. at 90th Street, while the LES location, expected in the fall, will open on Delancey Street. An exact address has yet to be announced, and Eater NY has reached out for more information.
