Robert de Niro bans Trump from Nobu

Actor Robert De Niro has made his feelings on Donald Trump very clear: Part-owner De Niro has banned the President from his hot Tribeca sushi restaurant Nobu. Daily Mail reports that De Niro recently “insisted he would never let Trump into any of the Nobu restaurants.” Not sure if Trump was clamoring to eat the raw fish, though, considering his inclination for well-done steak with ketchup.

Halo Top will set up a pop-up shop inside Supermoon Bakehouse

Wildly popular low-cal ice cream Halo Top is popping up inside Lower East Side bakery Supermoon Bakehouse. From May 31 to June 3, it will give away free samples of peanut butter cup and vanilla bean in soft-serve form. The lighter ice cream already has two permanent scoop shops in Los Angeles and one planned for San Diego. At least one New Yorker, who is suing the company for misleading him into thinking it’s full-fat ice cream, won’t be happy about the potential NYC expansion.

Cherche Midi sets closing date

Last call for steak frites at 282 Bowery — Keith McNally-helmed French bistro Cherche Midi has set its closing date. June 10 will be the last day for the four-year-old Lower East Side brasserie, which sports many McNally signatures: antique mirrors, leather banquettes, a vibe that’s simultaneously warm and hip, and a consistent crowd of downtowners.

Three coming attractions

A 2,250-square-foot restaurant will open in Mott Haven at 135 Alexander Ave. called Beatstro, serving soul food alongside hip hop-inspired decor. Much further downtown, the World Trade Center mall will get a bakery called Just Baked! In the East Village, a central Asian restaurant called Afandi Grill will open at 149 First Ave.

Morgenstern’s to preview its upcoming Greenwich Village location

In advance of the opening of its new flagship location at 490 LaGuardia Pl. at West Houston Street, Morgenstern’s will set up a stand at the location to sell scoops until construction is over and the space is ready. To celebrate the new spot and the brand’s four-year anniversary, owner Nick Morgenstern will hand out free scoops this Friday, May 25 from noon to 1 p.m.
