High profile summer event Big Apple Barbecue Block Party returns to Madison Square Park on June 9th and June 10th this year — with a similar slate of some of the country’s top pitmasters sliding into New York with their smokers.
New this year will be whole animal butchers Erika Nakamura and Jocelyn Guest, the duo who recently left April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman’s UWS restaurant White Gold. Otherwise, standbys like North Carolina whole hog purveyor Sam Jones of Skylight Inn, South Carolina legend Rodney Scott, and Brooklyn’s own Billy Durney of Hometown will be back on deck.
Like past years, the event is open to the public, and each barbecue station serves a plate of its wares for $12. Lines tend to be long, and those looking to shorten their time waiting can once again buy a FastPass for $125 to access “express lanes.” (The FastPass includes $100 towards food and drink.)
