The Clintons seem to love Upland
Beloved New York couple Hillary and Bill Clinton have found a good thing in Flatiron restaurant Upland. Upland seems to attract a political crowd, with President Barack Obama also having dined there.
Former Sasha Petraske partner plots new bar
Headed to 73 Monroe St., at Pike Street on the Lower East Side, is The Marilyn, a basement bar going into the luxury apartment building on-site. It’s from partners Luis Gil, Umi Muktar-Barnes, Kai Mucktar-Barnes, and Thomas Bonsignore — Bonsignore was a former partner of famed late cocktailier Sasha Petraske, who founded Milk & Honey — and they’re planning to bring a straight-up bar to the space, with cocktails until 4 a.m. and limited food, if their liquor license is granted.
Here comes potentially boozy bubble tea
A bubble tea shop is opening at 120 1/2 First Ave., between Seventh Street and St. Mark’s Place, and it’s seeking a liquor license. Bubbleology Tea is a London-based brand that serves bubble tea cocktails alongside a regular boba tea menu. The license application also shows plans for a British menu of crumpets and “assorted snacks.”
