New Alley Cat Amateur Theatre already has celebrity clientele
Newly opened Alley Cat Amateur Theatre, a Financial District bar thats blend old-school theater, izakaya, and speakeasy vibes, is already attracting an elite crowd, with actress Liv Tyler stopping by on Sunday night. Tyler was at a Cinema Society party for her new film Wildling, and Helena Christensen, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Candace Bushnell, and Nicole Miller were also all in attendance.
The egg “museum” is here, and the people love it
The Egg House, NYC’s newest niche “museum” dedicated to eggs, has opened — and a few days in, it’s already packed. The quirky Lower East Side museum’s premise is following the story of fictional character Ellis, a personified egg who is a new transplant to NYC and must learn to survive in its concrete world. Similar to the Museum of Ice Cream, rooms allow people to pose with life-size egg exhibits, obviously to immediately post on Instagram. Also on hand are egg dishes from Egg Shop and Eggloo; $18 tickets here.
New Oddfellows outpost about to debut
Oddfellows Ice Cream Co., known for its wacky/delicious flavor combos like chorizo caramel swirl and miso cherry in Williamsburg and the East Village, is opening another store tomorrow at 55 East Houston St., at Mott Street. This shop, called Coffee & Cream by OddFellows Ice Cream Co., will combine ice cream and coffee in various affogatos, cold-brew milkshakes, coffee soft serve, and more.
Quality Meats adds a so-called smoking section to the restaurant
An area in Midtown East steakhouse Quality Meats has been carved out as the new “smoking section,” where all-smoked food and drink is served. Cocktails are naturally full of scotch, mezcal, and other smoked spirits, like the BBQ Old Fashioned, which combines bourbon, bitters, demerara, and hickory smoke over housemade “charred ice.” Food includes dishes such as everything potato skins with smoked salmon, smoked whitefish, caviar, and dill.
