A new chef slides into Greenpoint

Former Beatrice Inn head chef Ed Szymanski is now the executive chef at Greenpoint’s neighborhood restaurant Cherry Point. His meat-focused menu at Cherry Point includes a beef tongue salad, glazed lamb ribs, quail on toast, dry aged steak, and various charcuterie options. Szymanski also previously cooked at the Spotted Pig and Mexico City’s Quintinil. The full Cherry Point menu is below.

A dinner with Carla Hall

On December 11, the Brownsville Community Culinary Center continues its series of charity-driven dinners with a benefit hosted by celebrity chef Carla Hall. She will serve a five-course menu from her new book, Carla Hall Every Day & Celebrations. Tickets are $200 per person, include a copy of the book, and benefit the culinary center as well as The Melting Pot Foundation. They can be purchased here.

A new local food initiative at the Brooklyn Navy Yards

The New York City Housing Authority is behind a new business development program called Local Bites, a food service kiosk at the revamped Brooklyn Navy Yards that will serve prepared food overseen by graduates from NYCHA’s Food Business Pathways program. The participants will have two month-long residences through Local Bites, starting off with Luquana McGriff and her business A Cake Baked in Brooklyn. Future participants include Brandi Covington and her business Cooking with Corey.

NYC sommelier wins top wine award in France

Racines managing partner and NYC-based sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier made it to the final round of France’s 2018 competition for the best sommelier. Last weekend, she was crowned the best sommelier of France 2018—the highest award in the competition. She is the first woman to win. On December 4, Lepeltier will host a Chenin tasting at Racines that will offer six half pours for $50. Reservations can be made by contacting the restaurant.

Grubhub and Seamless expand their New York scope

Grubhub and Seamless delivery have expanded to Palisades, Jamaica, Centerreach, and Bay Ridge, with local spots like Panino Rustico, Ginos of Nesconset, and Ferryman Cafe now participating in the service. Residents of those areas can get free delivery through December 13 with the promo code FREENOV.
