Downtown workers will soon have one of NYC’s most beloved Chinese restaurants as a lunch option: Chinese noodle chain Xi’an Famous Foods has secured a location in the Financial District and is on track to open in less than a month.
Owner Jason Wang confirms that the counter-service restaurant is headed to 8 Liberty Pl., between Maiden Lane and Liberty Street. He had been looking for a location in the neighborhood for quite some time, citing many requests to expand near the high-rise office buildings that define the historic area.
Opened as a stall in Flushing, Xi’an has now spread its famed cumin lamb noodles and stewed pork burgers — original recipes from Wang’s father David Shi — to 13 locations across Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. This will be the 14th.
Until very recently, there was a dearth of hand-pulled noodles in the Financial District. But just a couple weeks ago, Old Xian Delicacy appeared in the neighborhood. Now in just a few more weeks, the fragrant, spice fare of the China city Xian will have doubled.
When this location opens — stay tuned for a date — there will be a free dish to each customer who follows Xi’an on any social media channel.
