Constantly packed outdoor Brooklyn restaurant Pig Beach will soon be translating its barbecue and picnic vibes to a monster indoor space that will keep this summer-only spot open year-round.
Chef Matt Abdoo and his partners have taken over a 7,000-square-foot indoor warehouse space right next to its outdoor area at 480 Union Street, near Bond Street, in Gowanus. It will open next week, and after that, the outdoor portion will only be accessible by walking through the indoor one.
The indoor space will seat more than 170 people and serve a similar menu to the summer version of Pig Beach, except with lots of additions like a smoked pork tomahawk chop with a peach habanero glaze and a smoked fried chicken sandwich. New sides include a mac and cheese with toasted Goldfish and seasoned waffle fries that can be topped with pulled pork and pimento cheese.
Drinks here stay on the Southern- and beach-theme that’s already prevalent at Pig Beach. Cocktails include a gin pop (gin, lemon, blackberry, Fernet, soda) and a pink sangria punch (vodka, peach liquor, rose cider, strawberry, mint, peaches).
The pedigreed barbecue crew at Pig Beach — Abdoo used to be chef de cuisine at Del Posto — has previously done winter pop-ups, but this newly built-out space is much larger and intended to be a permanent cold weather hang-out.
Pig Beach’s indoor space opens on Tuesday, September 26th. See the full menu below.
