Chicago entrepreneur Brendan Sodikoff’s restaurant with a star burger Au Cheval will officially make its New York City debut next year in Tribeca.
The prolific restaurateur started eyeing the space at 79 Walker Street in the spring for the modern diner, but he noted at the time it would only move forward if the community board agreed to extended hours to serve liquor.
Now, the Times announces that that he is planning for a summer 2018 opening for the restaurant, which sells a burger that some say is the best in the country. It will seat 75 people and will have a coffee bar.
It’s not clear if the restaurant will have the late hours that Sodikoff mentioned. Eater has reached out for more information.
The Chicago location of Au Cheval is perpetually busy and one of the city’s most popular restaurants. People wait hours to try the burger, but the restaurant also serves a variety of neo-diner fare.
Sodikoff and his hospitality group Hogsalt planted a restaurant in New York for the first time last year with 4 Charles Prime Rib, a tiny West Village steakhouse. Hogsalt also plans to open an all-day restaurant with furniture company Restoration Hardware, as well as one inside a furniture store
