After a dramatic year of opening, closing after a fire, reopening, and then closing again to “retool,” Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen has permanently closed. The Chew cohost said in a statement that, “It was a venture close to my heart but we experienced a few hurdles, including an electrical fire, which severely impaired the restaurant’s operations.”
The fast-casual fried chicken restaurant opened in June 2016 in the Columbia Street Waterfront District with Nashville-style hot chicken and hearty side dishes. However, soon after opening, an electrical fire and ensuing issues shuttered the restaurant for a month. When it reopened in September, the restaurant continued to face challenges, like the general manager leaving.
“From that point on, things just started to go downhill. The cracks were starting to show in the front of the house,” Hall told Eater at the time.
Despite saying she intended to reopen with a new managing partner, Hall and CEO Jerry Levin have decided to just shut it down. The stand at Barclays Center remains open.
