Sweet Chick is coming to Prospect Heights
John Seymour is opening another Nas-backed Sweet Chick on July 31 in Prospect Heights at 341 Flatbush Avenue, the third NYC location. Seymour also recently partnered with Tupac Foundation to recreate Tupac’s Powamekka Café at Sweet Chick Brooklyn and he is starring in the new Adidas campaign.
An early exit for Cup & Saucer
Monday was supposed to have been the final day for the 30 year-old Cup & Saucer, but the diner had shuttered early, the gate down on the building. Well-wishers and former customers paid homage with signs and mementos left on or beside the gate. The diners was a casualty to a near-50-percent rent hike.
Tourondel expands his empire
Laurent Tourondel is expanding his casual-food empire. The chef, who owns LT Burger in Manhattan and on Sag Harbor's Main Street is taking over the town’s pizzeria, Conca D'Oro, also on Main Street, and turning it into a more contemporary spot with 90 seats. It will be a menu of Neapolitan pizza, much like the wood-fired everything menu at L’Amico near Herald Square. The pizzeria’s dining room, which hasn't been updated much since its opening in the '70s, will get a lift with a blue and white motif. Look for a spring opening. — Beth Landman
Another location for Tamashii, this time in Forest Hills
Japanese restaurant Tamashii will be opening another restaurant they’re calling Tamashii Red in a two-story Queens location at 71-34 Austin Street. It’s 1,600 square-feet in a prime retail corridor. It’s the same group behind Tamashii Ramen in Astoria and Tamashii Blue in Long Island City. Critic Robert Sietsema said this of its ramen: “Our favorite is the signature bowl, which includes all the trimmings — thick slices of pork belly, and plenty of greens — in a tonkosu that is lighter and less salty than most, meaning you can finish it without sending your blood pressure soaring.”
Absurd summer treats
