West Village Filipino fast-casual taqueria 2nd City will be spreading to more locations in NYC soon.
The Instagram-bait restaurant with food from chef Jordan Andino — a frequent TV guy who’s had a cameo as a chef on the Kardashians’ show — will be opening a location on the Upper East Side this fall, with another outpost to come in Bushwick, according to the Post.
The 16-seat Upper East Side location will open at 1752 Second Avenue, between 91st and 92nd Street, part of the 2nd City team’s plan to turn the restaurant into a mini-chain. Eater has reached out for more information.
Andino and 2nd City owners Michael Ryan and David Sewell opened the first location at 525 Hudson Street last May, serving burgers, tacos filled with adobo chicken, burritos with kimchi fried rice, and poke. The restaurant has its menu written on skateboards and its staff in tropical floral printed shirts. Items have cheeky names like “bi-curious tacos” and “plan b-rito.”
The chef has been better known for his appearances on shows like Chopped than he is for his food. But in a write-up in the Times’ Hungry City column, writer Ligaya Mishan found that the tacos were strong, while dishes like a pancit bihon and the chicken adobo burrito were underwhelming.
Stay tuned for more.
