Looks like the United States entrance of prolific Indian chain Chawla’s 2 is going well, since a second location is opening in Gramercy two years after the Queens debut in South Ozone Park. The tikka- and naan-heavy chain has 110 locations in India, as well as some in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
Now, its first Manhattan store has opened at 19th and Third with the same menu — in full below — which includes a variety of meat and vegetable curries; breads like naan, kulcha, and parantha; and appetizers like samosas and chaats. One thing specific to this location is the cream chicken that’s boneless cooked in milk, cream, and a “secret” blend of spice. The reliable menu and never-frozen guarantee has made Chawla’s well-liked in Queens and beyond.
Franchisee Jagdeep Singh owns the franchise rights to any U.S. locations, and he leans into the idea that the stores serve only the most popular Indian dishes, using that as a selling point for potential future franchisees.
This location is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a 30-seat dining room.
