Molly’s Milk Truck drives into Bushwick

Hoboken’s Molly’s Milk Truck has gone brick and mortar at 214 Knickerbocker Avenue, bringing its American diner menu indoors. Owner Hoda Mahmoodzadegan brought on chef Joseph Nierstedt (Per Se) to make a menu for the location, which is in full here, with a hot fried chicken sandwich, kale salad, cheeseburger, and more.

Middle Eastern dumpling shop heads to the West Village

After throwing kubeh dinners at Bar Bolonat, Melanie Shurka will open a full-fledged restaurant at 464 Sixth Avenue this month based on the Middle Eastern dumplings. Kubeh, as it will be called, will have the choice of five types of dumplings and four broths to eat them in, plus a few mezze, including kibbeh, a similar dish.

Brooklyn’s Chez Ma Tante adds brunch

Chez Ma Tante is right on schedule for adding brunch to its repertoire after opening about a month ago. Two ex-Cafe Altro Paradiso cooks are behind the Canadian-inspired restaurant in Greenpoint (92 Calyer Street), which has hot dogs and French fries at lunch, plus shellfish, charcuterie, salads, and more at a slightly more refined dinner. Now, the brunch menu — in full below — has dishes as simple as pancakes on up to blood pudding with baked beans and fried egg.

Boulud Sud has a somm shuffle

After less than a year heading up Boulud Sud’s wine program, sommelier Amanda Smeltz is moving on. Smeltz made a name for herself at Bushwick hipster favorite Roberta’s, where she focused mostly on natural and more unusual wines, which she brought uptown to Sud. Now, Il Buco’s Joe Robitaille will take over.

Essex Crossing, that futuristic, multi-block urban renewal development on the Lower East Side, has gone public. The schmancy website for the project is now live, including The Market Line, that will connect three city blocks with food and retail shops anchored by the Essex Street Market.

NYC restaurants make a statement on Gun Violence Awareness Day

Today is Gun Violence Awareness day, and Houseman and Wildair are raising awareness with the color orange. Everytown, which works to end gun violence, is putting on a Wear Orange campaign, and the two restaurants will do just that today, along with pouring orange wine at Wildair and making orange cocktails at Houseman.

It’s Shake Shack versus McDonald’s in the East Village

It’s a burger swap on Saint Mark’s, as McDonald’s shutters and Shake Shack moves in nearby. Property owner Joseph Gabay points to the changing area, led by high-rise 51 Astor Place, as a reason McDonald’s chose not to renew.
