Early a.m. two-alarm fire
Artichoke Basille’s Pizza at 328 E. 14th Street caught fire early this morning, a two-alarm blaze that started on the ground floor. Damage reportedly extended to the upper levels. Firefighters got the call at 5:15 a.m and had it under control by around 6:30 a.m. From the Daily News: "I woke up to drunk girls on the street eating pizza and taking Snapchats, saying 'Holy s--t! There's a fire,'" said Morgan Crouse, 25, who lives above the pizzeria.
The restaurant opened in 2008 when cousins Francis Garcia and Sal Basille left a family pizzeria on Staten Island to open this one. This location had recently announced it would move across the street to 321 E. 14th Street, since the lease at 328 14th Street is up.
