Long Island had been the original inspiration for new seafood spot Out East, now open in the East Village. To be accurate, the concept has pivoted since its announcement so that all mentions are scrubbed clean from marketing materials, instead positioning it as a beachy getaway with no specific geographical leanings.

Regardless, seafood still plays a big role here, with much of the menu dedicated to crudos, plus a mixture of salads, pasta, and meaty mains. Chef Tim Meyers (Charlie Bird), Peter Kane (a partner in Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social), and Anthony Serignese (formerly of Beauty & Essex and Stanton Social) are behind this one, and it shows in the highly-designed, trendy space (there’s a millennial pink banquette).

It’s a bi-level location with a massive skylight that floods the 124-seat space with light. Brunch isn’t yet offered, but it would seemingly be a lovely time of day to dine, especially with the cocktail list from Sarah Boisjoli (Estela, Cafe Altro Paradiso).

Out East is now open at 509 East Sixth Street, Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Friday and Saturday until 1 a.m.
