Now that Daily Provisions has opened, the buildout of Martina is in full-swing. The pizza spot from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group at 55 Third Ave., has put up the plywood at little Marta, if you will, which will have 13 tables and a sidewalk cafe.
The 12-floor building on Third Ave between 10th and 11th Streets was recently renovated top-to-bottom, with the address home to two retail tenants: The Smith (which will remain open), and M2M, which will close this weekend to make room for another Wagamama.
The group was approved for a beer and wine license in November and in the application proposed hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday and until 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Whether Martina will strive to create a Roman-slash-New York-style pizza like what’s served at Marta, or a straight-up Roman style remains to be seen, but we’ll keep you posted.
