Chrissy Teigen and others say goodbye to Guy Fieri’s Times Square restaurant

Yesterday’s news that Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar will close after NYE elicited reactions from Guy Fieri fans across the internet — including model Chrissy Teigen, who said she went as a joke but “came out covered in ribs and nacho hybrids.” Times critic Pete Wells, who wrote a famously damning goose egg review for the restaurant composed entirely of questions, said: “I guess it’s time to give up on getting those questions answered.” Sources tell The Real Deal that the restaurant had 10 or so years left on the lease and paid about $1.8 million a year in rent.

Michelin-starred DC restaurant The Dabney plots NYC pop-up

The next chef-in-residence at pop-up restaurant Chefs Club will be Jeremiah Langhorne, the chef and owner behind Michelin-starred DC restaurant (and Eater DC 38 member) The Dabney. Langhorne will start at the Nolita restaurant on January 12th and will be here until March. Dishes like chicken and dumplings and sweet potato rolls — fried chicken or catfish in sweet potato Parker House rolls — will be on the menu, though created with ingredients sourced from more New York farms. Reservations are live now.

Paquito’s in East Village downsizes after 25 years

EV Grieve takes a look at four imminent closures in the East Village, including decades-old Mexican restaurant Paquito’s. The 143 First Avenue restaurant, near 9th Street, will be closing tomorrow, though owners will maintain delivery and to-go service at neighboring space. Also: Grassroot’s Tavern has its final call after NYE following 42 years in the neighborhood, along with other year-end closures.

New Yorker names its favorite restaurants of 2017

AbcV, The Fat Monk, Otway, and King are among the restaurants that New Yorker’s “Table for Two” writers particularly loved this year. On Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s vegetarian restaurant, Carolyn Kormann writes: “At first, I found the spin a bit too self-congratulatory, but after several visits I got over it—the food was too good, the service too sweet, even the bohemian-scientific-chic aesthetic more pleasant than I had wanted to admit.” Belly, the Williamsburg Korean pork belly omakase restaurant, also landed on the list.

Joe Jonas and his fiancée Sophia Turner were reportedly spotted at an Upper East Side location of Serafina Fabulous Pizza on the Upper East Side, looking “cozy.” For a look at a different pizza, check out this video on a mecca in Staten Island:
