Celebrity and billionaire favorite Beautique suddenly shuttered its Midtown location this week with word that it would reopen — but management now says the new version of the restaurant may have an entirely new name and menu.
A spokesman for the lavish restaurant, located at West 58th Street between 5th and 6th avenues, says that the four-year-old French-ish American restaurant plans to bring on a new chef. The resulting menu will be either French or Italian cuisine, depending on who’s hired. Candidates are currently being interviewed, including a TV personality and a sous from a 3-star restaurant.
The name Beautique may be nixed as well. The plan is to open the new restaurant as early as January.
Despite the sudden closure — and word that staff was laid off without notice — the restaurant insists nothing was afoot. They wanted to reopen in time for fashion week; some of the staff will be rehired when the restaurant reopens. “We had one of our busiest periods last week, but we’ve been around four years, and there are things that need updating,’’ the spokesman says.
Beautique first opened in 2014 with rose petals on its wallpaper, a big crystal chandelier, and a big grand piano in the foyer. Since then, it’s become a favorite of celebrities, including Real Housewives, Charlie Sheen, Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s been called a “playpen for millionaires” and “a local watering hole for oil tycoons.”
Stay tuned for more.
