Every holiday season, Eater puts together a gift guide for restaurant obsessives, and this year we thought a real life gift guide was the obvious next step. We’ve teamed up with Canal Street Market — and our sister site Racked — to bring you a weeklong pop-up.
From Friday, December 1 to Thursday, December 7, Eater will be hanging out in the space at the back of the market, between the retail and food sections. Stop by all week for holiday-themed food demos, wine and cider tastings, book signings, and holiday card making. You’ll also be able to shop our editors’ favorite products throughout the market — just look for the Eater-approved hangtags.
It all starts with a kick-off party from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, December 1 — you can follow this link to RSVP to the party, and see the full lineup of events on the Facebook page here. See you there!
Here’s what you can expect to find in Eater’s space each day:
Friday, December 1: From 7 p.m. onward, Davey’s will be giving out samples of their holiday hot chocolate. And from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., John Donohue — known for his epic illustrations of New York's best restaurants —will be on site drawing holiday cards.
Saturday, December 2: Sample miso from Izakaya Samurice and watch the restaurant demo its pourover miso technique from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday, December 3: Cafe Altro Paradiso/Flora Bar pastry chef Natasha Pickowicz will be selling her gianduja chocolate sticky buns from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; all proceeds will benefit the Lenox Hill neighborhood house.
And between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., sample the eggnog horchata from Boba Guys.
Monday, December 4: From 4:30 p.m. to 6p.m., join us for a reading and Q&A with Julia Turshen, author of Feed the Resistance — one of Eater’s best books of 2017. Following the talk, led by Eater’s Daniela Galarza, there will be a book signing, and Kitchen Arts & Letters will be on hand selling copies. RSVP here.
Illustrator John Donohue will also be in the market from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. making and selling more of his hand-drawn holiday cards.
Tuesday, December 5: Check out a tasting of California wines from Pax from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday, December 6: Brooklyn-based Raaka Chocolate will make s’mores from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Angry Orchard will offer a cider tasting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Thursday, December 7: From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Eater and Racked editors will read fun holiday essays — like this one from Arianna Rebolini — and more.
See all of Racked’s events at the holiday pop-up here. And don’t forget to let us know you’re coming.
