With a menu of sustainable seafood like fluke, octopus, tilefish, and squid, Gloria will open next month at 401 W. 53rd St. in the former Co Ba 53 space.

A partnership between Diego Garcia, Phil Johnson, and Leland Meibeyer, the restaurant is undergoing final cosmetic updates in the next few weeks, with the installation of banquettes and new lighting in what will be a 40-seat restaurant with room for eight at the bar.

A sous chef at Contra for a stretch and a cook at Le Bernardin for several years, Garcia has put together a menu inspired by his upbringing in coastal Mexico and Napa, Calif. Gloria is named for Garcia’s mother, who lives in California.

Former general manager at Contra, Johnson has been a sommelier and front of the house manager at Aldo Sohm Wine Bar, Dovetail, and Gwynnett St. He’s put together a wine list of “natural French and nouveau California producers” and New York-brewed beers on the six-draught tap. It’ll also have an espresso bar, serving Parlor Coffee. Gloria will debut for dinner-only first, with plans to eventually open for lunch.
