The doors at Walter’s Coffee Roastery, a "Breaking Bad"-inspired coffee shop, opened last week in Bushwick. Behind the project is Deniz Kosan, who operates a location of the coffeeshop in Istanbul. Kosan, an avid Walter White and coffee fan, scouted Brooklyn for a US outpost of the coffeeshop before eventually deciding on the space at 65 Irving Avenue. But don’t expect walls lined with photos of everyone’s favorite chemistry teacher. The nods here are more subtle than that, like a HazMat yellow interior, coffee served in beakers, and the menu arranged like a periodic table.
Walter’s sources its beans from Nicaragua, Columbia, and Ethiopa, which are then roasted at Pulley Collective in Red Hook. Coffee choices are simple here; Walter drank his black after all. But there is a Lemonbrew made of half Japanese cold brew and half homemade lemonade. Plus: Walter's is making its own pastries like apple pie and chocolate cake. Walter's opens at 7:00 a.m. Monday to Friday, and 9:00 a.m. on weekends. Let us know what you think if you stop by, bitch.
