The group behind upscale critical hits like Quality Eats is making a move in the nightclub business. Michael Stillman’s Quality Branded plans to open Squares in Nomad at 360 Park Avenue South in September. It’s in the former space of tiki bar and lounge Riff Raff’s, which they also operated, and in the same building as the group’s seasonal restaurant Park Avenue, though it has a separate entrance on 26th Street. Unlike Quality's portfolio of full-service steakhouses like Smith & Wollensky and Quality Italian, Squares will serve just small bites and cocktails from Bryan Schneider, a Clover Club alum who also runs the bar program at Quality Eats.
The nightclub will ditch Riff Raff’s tropical theme for one that’s more "cheeky irreverence with the classic New York society club." Expect wood, leather, marble busts, stag heads, and a "fireplace-turned-DJ booth and stage." It will also host live music and performances. The Post reports that it will cater to a more "sophisticated" crowd. More details on the food program will be revealed later. Square will be Quality’s seventh concept. The family-run restaurant group considered opening a new outpost of Quality Eats in the Lower East Side earlier this year, but they dropped the plans after opposition from the local community board.
