JoJo, the first restaurant opened by Jean-Georges Vongerichten after his initial four star venture Lafayette in the Drake Hotel, will be tweaking its identity. The bi-level boîte in a chic brownstone on East 64th Street, which opened in 1991, will close in the fall for six weeks, to undergo a renovation and concept change.
"It will be more of a downtown atmosphere in an uptown space,'' says Lois Freedman, President of Jean-Georges Management. To that end the company is bringing in architect Thomas Juul-Hansen, who designed Vongerichten's West Village restaurant, Perry Street. Apart from the interior, the menu will also be new. Says Freedman: "We are changing everything, We want it to be more casual and fun.''
