Pies 'n' Thighs co-owner Carolyn Bane sends word that this is the last week in business for the Canal Street location of her casual comfort food restaurant. Pies 'n' Thighs LES opened back in January 2015 with a lunch counter-style dining room that had more seats than the Williamsburg original. The Canal Street spinoff offered affordably priced breakfast dishes, house-made doughnuts, sandwiches, Southern-style sides, and some of the city’s finest fried chicken. By all accounts, it was just as good as the original, but it just didn’t catch on like the first restaurant.
Bane tells Eater: "It's emotional for us because we love the neighborhood, our staff and all the regulars, but a true Pies is a great hang and we never quite achieved that in this spot. We've been very fortunate at our Williamsburg location to be a homegrown neighborhood spot for 10 years (!) and we hope to see all our Canal friends there very soon!"
Check out Robert Sietsema’s assessment of an early visit to the Canal Street Pies 'n' Thighs there.
