Black Tap will be opening its third NYC location in Midtown this year. The owners of the relatively new Soho burger restaurant, which still has long lines for its elaborate shakes topped with sprinkles and cookies, have talked about expanding to other neighborhoods, and they’re making good on the chatter with a new outpost planned at the Blakely New York Hotel at 136 West 55th St. The location is expected to open late this fall. According to a write-up on the hotel’s website, Black Tap Midtown will serve both chef Joe Isidori’s critically beloved burger and the popular calorie bomb milkshakes.
Isidori won’t be stopping with the Midtown location. He told New York Business Journal earlier this month that he wants about six locations in the New York area, and a spokesman confirms to Eater that he's eyeing locations in the Upper West Side and Williamsburg. Plus: the burger restaurant is going international. Black Tap be opening a location in Dubai soon, a spokesman says. Isidori said earlier this month that he has several licensing deals planned in the Middle East.
The original location in Soho opened just over a year ago, but the runaway hit of the $15 milkshakes, which he created with the help of a social media manager, exploded business. Most people who stand in line for the shake also end up buying a burger, specimens that Eater resident carnivore Nick Solares named some of the best new burgers of 2015. Meanwhile, the Soho location is also growing. The new subterranean space to handle overflow, called Black Tap Down, should be opening soon.
