Restaurant mega-group BR Guest has added an izakaya-style project to its portfolio in the form of Izi, a new restaurant opening on Thursday beneath Blue Fin in Times Square. Izi, at 1567 Broadway, is a 26-seat restaurant in a space that used to be Blue Fin's downstairs lounge. The restaurant serves dishes like poke, Korean fried chicken, sushi rolls, and shellfish towers. It's not really a traditional izakaya — options like sliders with tomato jam and rainbow kale caesar salad pop up on the menu as well.
The drink menu features Japanese whiskeys and a list of more than 22 sakes, which are available in flights. The sushi comes from chef Mike "Boo" Lim, an alum of Michelin starred Sushi of Gari, while the rest of the menu is a collaboration between BR Guest culinary director Sam Hazen and executive chef Juan Carlos Ortega, a longtime BR Guest staffer. It's not the first time BR Guest has changed up portions of Blue Fin. Last year, half of the space transformed into the group's sceney Mexican restaurant Dos Caminos. Check out the full menu of Izi below, and let us know what you think if you stop by.
