April Bloomfield and recent James Beard winner Ken Friedman, along with butchers Jocelyn Guest and Erika Nakamura, are previewing their upcoming restaurant and butcher shop — to be named White Gold — at Summer in the City Surf and Turf, the first night of New Taste of the Upper West Side. The trio will serve a whole heritage hog that has been smoked for 24 hours, accompanied by house-made collards, kimchi, shrimp chips, and kewpie mayo on Friday night under a grand tent on 77th and Columbus. 1500 people are expected at the event which will be hosted by Anne Burrell and Alex Guarnaschelli and also feature Upper West Side newcomer Playa Betty's (serving breaded and fried "taco-fella'' oysters on corn tortillas) and the about-to-open Maison Pickle which is taking over the former Ouest space on Broadway (serving beef and salmon tartare with salmon crackling and sea urchin). White Gold is set to open to the public later this summer at 375 Amsterdam Avenue.
