Chelsea Market Visitors Get an Early Taste of Philly Hummus Hit Dizengoff

New, 4 comments

The superstars behind Zahav surprised New York today with hummus, lamb, and pita galore

The official grand opening for Dizengoff, Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook's Chelsea Market hummus counter, is slated for this Wednesday, May 25. But the restaurant slipped into a stealth soft opening phase this morning. Eater reader Alyse says that it was "not jam-packed" during lunch hour today. She snagged an order of chef Emily Seaman's braised lamb-topped hummus with fresh baked pita, plus assorted pickles and vegetable salads. The Diz team is going to be serving some friends and family meals tonight, and the kitchen might also open for part of the day tomorrow...but nothing is set in stone. The kitchen should be fully up and running by Wednesday morning.

The original location of Dizengoff is in Philadelphia, right next to Solomonov and Cook's delicatessen-inspired restaurant Abe Fisher. In that city, the duo also operates the wildly popular Federal Donuts restaurants, the critical darling Zahav, and a casual barbecue restaurant called Percy Street. To prepare for their first NYC restaurant, the guys made this Rocky-themed video:

Stay tuned for more updates on the hummus restaurant of the century, as they become available.
