Restaurateurs Corey Lane and Roberto Buchelli are planning to open Café Medi, a new coastal Mediterranean establishment, at the Hotel on Rivington. Vincent Chirico, who worked at Jean-Georges, Aquavit and Daniel, and has been chef owner at Vai for the past eight years on the Upper West Side, will helm this kitchen as well, offering up a gluten-free menu with such dishes as roasted peach with burrata, speck, hazelnut and wild arugula; organic baby shiitake mushroom with white polenta and soft egg; charred octopus with jalapeño pesto and baby fingerlings; and whole snapper with spring onion leek and Niçoise olives. There will also be a crudo bar with options like hamachi with preserved ginger and avocado, and Allen Katz will oversee an all-natural cocktail program for which he is known.
Café Medi will be the first U.S. project for Barcelona designers LRV, Lazaro Rosa Violan Studio, known for working with exotic tiles. The space will include an outdoor cafe and private rooftop dining. It's slated to open this summer.
