Uber trendy veggie burger destination By Chloe is opening a huge new outpost in the Seaport District — the third big name to announce restaurant locations in the Howard Hughes Corporation's downtown development plan. The West Village restaurant will take over 2,500-square-feet of space on Front Street by 2017, and diners will be able to eat food in the restaurant or to-go. Vegan celeb chef Chloe Coscarelli and By Chloe co-founder Samantha Wasser join David Chang and Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who are planning restaurants and a market in the same area.
By Chloe only opened last summer, but the Seaport District announcement is just one of several expansion plans the vegan hotspot has announced. The restaurant, which is part of mega-restaurant group ESquared, will also be opening new locations in Soho, Flatiron District, Boston, and Los Angeles. The fast casual restaurant serves veggie burgers, salads, juices, ice cream, and baked goods. Coscarelli notably won Food Network's Cupcake Wars, becoming the first vegan chef to win a TV cooking competition. Besides restaurants, the Seaport District will eventually be home to a movie-and-dinner theater (opening later this year), a McNally Jackson bookstore, and clothing retailer Scotch and Soda.
