With a string of failures behind him, Todd English signs another hotel restaurant deal

Hard-partying chef Todd English is planning a new restaurant in the W Downtown Hotel called — wait for it — The English. Todd will be running this new project with his son, Oliver. The elder English promises that this will be "a true celebration of food, drink and life" that's full of "American glamour." The new 200-seat restaurant will inhabit the space previously occupied by BLT Bar & Grill. The restaurant will feature an oyster bar and a patio.

As you may recall, English operated Olives in the W Union Square for 14 years, until the Gerber Group forced him out of the restaurant, and then turned it into an entirely different concept. The Todd English Restaurant Graveyard also includes CrossBar, Chateau Cherbuliez, Ember Room, The Libertine, and English Is Italian. He currently operates Ca Va, The Todd English Food Hall, and Figs at LaGuardia.
