Park Avenue South Fusion Restaurant Tasca Chino Fizzles Out After One Year

The restaurant wasn't bringing in enough customers

Kat Odell

Tasca Chino, the Asian-Latin fusion restaurant from Simon Oren, David Sasson and Alon Jibli, all partners in ten-year-old Barbounia across the street, has closed after just over a year. It began with chef Alex Urena, and then Prague-based toque Shahaf Shabtay took the helm, but despite a surge in popularity, the consistency of diners wasn't sufficient to maintain the large space. "We gave it a valiant effort and we are sad to see the restaurant go,'' says a spokesperson for Tasca Chino. "Business picked up quite a bit but never reached the height we'd hoped for."
