Now's your chance to be Di Fara's landlord — the building that houses the iconic Midwood pizzeria is up for sale. The mixed-use building at 1424 Avenue J is asking about $4 million, according to broker GFI Realty Services. Besides the pizzeria, the four-story property has six apartments and three other storefronts. While landlord changeovers usually means an unclear future for its tenants, Di Fara probably doesn't have to worry as much as the average restaurant about needing to relocate. The marketing materials celebrate the pizzeria, which has been around since 1965, as giving the building "a great deal of prominence."
When the building sells this time, it will ultimately be up to the new owner and the DeMarco family as to whether the pizzeria stays in the spot, according to the sales broker's spokesperson. Still, the building's changed hands a few times in the past, and the corner restaurant has always remained. It was last sold in 2002, according to Department of Finance records. Hard to imagine it leaving the iconic corner, where people still wait in line for hours to get a glimpse of Dom DeMarco slinging pies.
