Just one month after beloved Chinatown restaurant 69 Bayard closed, a restaurant named Wing Kee has settled into its space, according to Bowery Boogie. Last month, the owners of the 80-year-old staple 69 Bayard decided to close as the lease was set to expire and the landlord increased the rent. Yesterday, the space officially reopened its doors under new ownership. Bowery Boogie notes that the menu at Wing Kee is largely the same as 69 Bayard's and is still worthy of the cheap eats label. Even the kitchen staff is reportedly the same. And while a refurbished and brightened interior currently boasts none of 69 Bayard's iconic dollar bills on the walls, the new management is encouraging its patrons to continue the tradition.
