The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists for its 2016 Restaurant and Chef Awards on Tuesday in San Francisco. Last month, it released a list of semifinalists, with nominations for places in New York like Wildair and Maison Premiere, and for the finalist list, nominees get cut down. For NYC, that meant surprise semifinalists like Superiority Burger for best new restaurant and Aldo Sohm for outstanding wine, beer, or spirits professional are no longer in the running. Best Chef New York City: Marco Canora (Hearth), Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi (Carbone), Anita Lo (Annisa), Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto), Jody Williams (Buvette)
