NYC James Beard Award Finalists 2016: Wildair, Zachary Golper, Momofuku Noodle Bar, and More

Many New Yorkers made the cut for the finalist list

The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists for its 2016 Restaurant and Chef Awards on Tuesday in San Francisco. Last month, it released a list of semifinalists, with nominations for places in New York like Wildair and Maison Premiere, and for the finalist list, nominees get cut down. For NYC, that meant surprise semifinalists like Superiority Burger for best new restaurant and Aldo Sohm for outstanding wine, beer, or spirits professional are no longer in the running. Best Restaurant Design or Renovation (75 seats and under): Bruno (Demian Repucci), Untitled (Renzo Piano Building Workshop in collaboration with Cooper Robertson)

Best New Restaurant: Wildair

Outstanding Baker: Zachary Golper (Bien Cuit)

Outstanding Bar Program: Maison Premiere

Outstanding Pastry Chef: Ghaya Oliveira (Daniel), Jennifer Yee (Lafayette)

Outstanding Restaurant: Momofuku Noodle Bar, The Spotted Pig

Outstanding Restaurateur: Ken Friedman (The Spotted Pig, The Breslin, Tosca Café), Stephen Starr (The Clocktower, Upland, Buddakan NY, and restaurants in Philadelphia, DC, and more)

Outstanding Service: Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Eleven Madison Park

Rising Star Chef of the Year: Angela Dimayuga (Mission Chinese Food), Matt Rudofker (Momofuku Ssäm Bar), Daniela Soto-Innes (Cosme)

Best Chef New York City: Marco Canora (Hearth), Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi (Carbone), Anita Lo (Annisa), Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto), Jody Williams (Buvette)
