Newspaper guy has a big grin on his face, because his favorite restaurant, Cafe Altro Paradiso, is now open for dinner on Spring Street. This is the new Italian restaurant from Ignacio Mattos and Thomas Carter, the duo behind Houston Street hit Estela. The space has big windows, vaulted ceilings, a long marble bar, and light fixtures inspired by a post office in Palermo, Sicily. Mattos and his crew are making pasta and sausages in house. Carter has put together a wine list with a strong emphasis on Italian producers, plus selections from Burgundy and the Rhône. The bar is serving cocktails made with Italian spirits. No dress code, but you might want to take a tip from newspaper guy and go with something casual. Check out the menus below, and if you happen to stop by this week, let us know what you think:
