Staten Island’s luxury waterfront development Urby Staten Island is shaping up to be a food and drink destination. According to DNAinfo, Gringo’s, a taco restaurant that’s also packed with classic arcade games, is joining the complex. It’s the same development that will be home to Hometown Bar-B-Que pitmaster Billy Durney’s ambitious Surf BBQ & Grill, a live wood fire cooking restaurant with barbecue and grilled meats and fish.
Gringo’s proprietors Darren Conway and Rebecca Tarantino also own Pier 13 and Lulu’s Lounge in Hoboken, and Conway tells SI LIve that their newest project will take over about 5,000-square-feet at Urby. The menu will feature tacos and other Mexican food, and games will include skee-ball, shuffleboard, Mario Bros., and Donkey Kong. It will also have two bar areas. Final details are still in the works.
Besides Gringo’s and Surf BBQ & Grill, Urby Staten Island will also have a sustainable farm that will offer produce to restaurants, a restaurant from the team behind Brooklyn’s The Pearl Room, and an olive oil shop. Gringo’s is expected to open in March 2017.
