A Look Inside the Resurrected Chumley's, Now Open in the West Village

The former speakeasy finds new life as a restaurant

Here is a tour of the revamped Chumley's, the former speakeasy turned cherished neighborhood bar that shuttered almost a decade ago. The space has been resurrected by restaurateur Alessandro Borgognone (Sushi Nakazawa) and turned into a full-fledged restaurant with a cozy dining room in the front and barroom in the back. Borgognone has tried to replicate the look and feel of the original, going so far as to hire a local historian to help recreate the layout of portraits and book jackets that line the walls. But this is a more modern interpretation replete with upgraded wallpaper and leather banquets. Chumley's is open for dinner, if you happen to stop by do let us know what you think.
